Newton Group Bike Ride

Two fun rides with a purpose have come up for this weekend.  Pick one and let's go! Ride #1 from NEWTON: RIDE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SUNDAY OCT. 1st! Join us for a group ride as two great local biking advocacy organizations -- Biking Brookline and Bike Newton -- team up for a nice loop that includes Waltham, Watertown, Cambridge, Allston as well as Newton and Brookline, the Auburndale Cove, and a good piece of the Charles River Bike Path.  Meet at the Newton Free Library on Homer St. in Newton Center -- be there by 10:00 am.  The Brookline group will meet us at the library and then we'll proceed west on Commonwealth  Ave. to the Cove.  There will a stop in Watertown by the Charles River for a picnic lunch, so [...]

Join us for a relatively short and family-oriented ride though the streets of several Newton villages: Newtonville, Newton Center, Newton Upper Falls, Newton Highlands and Oak Hill, including the Newton Highland Greenway.    Meet at Star Market on Austin St. in Newtonville, and we’ll leave at 10:00 am.  This is a family-friendly, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult.  Bike helmets are required.   10 miles roundtrip.  Be sure to check bikenewton.org for last-minute changes. Join us for a ride to Jamaica Plain to the headquarters of BikesNotBombs (284 Amory St., JP) where we will join and ride with BNB's  final Unity in Community Ride of the season which is planned to go 11am to 1pm.  And then the group would head back to Newton.   The BNB rides usually feature a large number of riders, plenty of music and a lot of fun.  This BNB ride is short (6 mi.) and will tour through Franklin Park and the Arnold Arboretum. Starting in Newtonville, we'll ride along the Charles River to Harvard Square in Cambridge, then head up Concord Ave. to Fresh Pond.  We'll partially circle the pond and head back towards Watertown on the  Watertown-Cambridge Greenway.  Before arriving at Watertown Square, riders will have the option of stopping for lunch at Joyful Garden in the Watertown Mall for some of the best dim sum available outside of Chinatown.   Whether you want to stop at Joyful Garden or go directly back to Newtonville, ride leaders will be available in both cases. A nice ride from Newton Center through south Newton, Brookline and West Roxbury to Millennium Park, by the Charles River.    Meet at the Newton Free Library on Homer St. in Newton Center, and we’ll leave at 2:00 PM.   The group can decide how much exploring around the park they'd like to do once we get there.  This is a family-friendly, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult.  Bike helmets are required.   13 miles roundtrip.  Be sure to check bikenewton.org for last-minute changes. Join us for a spring bike ride on Sunday, April 21st as we celebrate Earth Day 2024 at Newton North High School, presented by Newton's own incredible environmental organization Green Newton.  There will be all sorts of activities, information, exhibits, music and fun from 12 noon to 4pm. It should be a beautiful day for a spring bike ride along the Charles River and through Cambridge to the Lilypad to see an afternoon concert of "Woodwind Chamber Music With a Contemporary Jazz Twist" presented by TRIchrO.  The Lilypad is located at 1353 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA, 02139,  in Inman Square.  For those riders who would like to skip the concert, and just head back to Newton after a little break, a group ride leader will be available for that as well! Join us for an excellent group ride to the 46th Annual Wake up the Earth Festival in Jamaica Plain, taking place in the Southwest Corridor Park.  After taking a rest and getting a bite to eat there, we'll continue for a tour through Arnold Arboretum, and then head back to Newton.  You'll see how easy it is -- and fun -- to get to Jamaica Plain visit a cool outdoor festival, have a picnic and go to the Arboretum -- all without a car!
