SUMMARY:Group Ride: Somerville Honk Fest 2025!
DESCRIPTION:It’s October and that means it’s time for Honk!  Festival of Activist Street Bands! \nJoin us for a nice ride to Honk!   Starting in Newtonville\, we’ll go to Watertown Sq.\, then on the off-road bike path past Fresh Pond to Davis Square in Somerville.  We can have a bite to eat\, see a few of the Honk! bands in the Davis Sq. area\, and then head back.  How long we stay at Honk! can be determined by the group\, but perhaps about one hour.   We can return either along the some route\, or via Harvard Sq. and the Charles River bike path. \nMeet in front of the Star Market at 33 Austin St. in Newtonville\, and we’ll leave at 12 noon Saturday.   This is a family-friendly\, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited\, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult.  Bike helmets are required.   Approx. 15 miles roundtrip.   Be sure to check bikenewton.org for last-minute changes. \nApproximate Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48628299

DESCRIPTION:LivableStreets Alliance is a wonderful nonprofit located in the Metro Boston area. They advocate for transportation solutions that are safe\, affordable\, and enjoyable.  Their goal is to make communities more connected and livable\, and to dismantle invisible barriers that divide communities and people.  Tour de Streets is their most important annual fundraising event\, featuring a walk\, bike ride\, and a celebration with food\, drinks\, + activities provided by local vendors! \nJoin us for an interesting and fun ride as we bike from Newton to Central Square in Cambridge\, join up with Tour de Streets for their “Bike ride North”\, a guided tour of urban transportation infrastructure\, then return to the Livable Streets office for food and drinks.  Schedule is: depart Newtonville at 9:30\, arrive at Livable Streets  at 100 Sidney St. in Central Square by 10:15\, then depart on “Bike ride North” at 10:30 am\, arriving back at Livable Streets by 12:30pm.   We can enjoy some food and drinks there\, and head back to Newton about 1:00pm. \nPlease note!  Livable Streets would like you to please pre-register here.  While you can ride for free\, Livable Streets would love you to make a donation to their organization\, which you can do here\, or on the registration page.   They suggest a $25 donation\, if you can do it! \nMeet in front of the Star Market at 33 Austin St. in Newtonville\, and we’ll leave at 9:30am Saturday.   This is a family-friendly\, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited\, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult.  Bike helmets are required.   Approx. 22 miles roundtrip.   Be sure to check bikenewton.org for last-minute changes. \nApproximate Route:

DESCRIPTION:Join us for what could the last official Bike Newton group ride of the year.   We will start in Newtonville\, head out Commonwealth Ave. towards Weston\, ending up on the Mass Central Rail Trail (MCRT) going west.   We’ll bike to Wayland on the MCRT\, turn around and head back to Waltham\, eventually getting to the Charles River Trail and then back to Newtonville.  To celebrate the end of another great summer biking season (and the start of winter biking!) all riders are invited to come to  the Ride Leaders house in Newtonville\, in the back yard for some hot cider and snacks. \nMeet in front of the Star Market on Austin St. in Newtonville\, and we’ll leave at 10:00 am\, Saturday morning.  Dress warmly — it might be cold out.  This is a family-friendly\, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited\, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult. DESCRIPTION:Honoring the life of Louisa Gag\n\n\n\n\nWe are all still heartbroken of the loss of Louisa Gag last week. The Massachusetts Vision Zero Coalition is holding a vigil honoring the life of Louisa Gag and calling for immediate\, urgent action to create safer streets for all. \nHear from those who worked and partnered with Louisa about her profound impact as a transportation leader and cherished colleague. Then join us in demanding changes to help prevent further deaths from traffic violence. \nDATE: Thursday\, July 16\, 2026 \nTIME: Gather at 5:30 p.m.; speaking program starts at 6:00 p.m. \nWHERE: City Hall Plaza\, 1 City Hall Square\, Boston\, MA 02203 \nIf possible\, please wear yellow in support of Vision Zero. \nBIKE CONVOYS: Groups across the region are planning bike convoys to the vigil. \nWe will meet at Star Market (33 Austin St. Newton) at 4:30pm Thursday July 16th.   We’ll ride through Newton Corner\, Brighton\, Allston\, past B.U. and the Boston Common to City Hall Plaza. \nThis is a family-friendly\, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited\, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a summer morning ride through the back roads of Waltham\, Wayland\, and Weston\,  along some of  the Charles River Trail and the Mass Central Rail Trail\, to Mark and Celia’s house in Lincoln.  We’ll stop for a little rest and chat with our friendly hosts\, have something to drink and some cookies.  We might also be able fit in a stop at Dairy Joy on way back\, as well! \nMeet in front of the Star Market at 33 Austin St. Newtonville\, and we’ll leave at 9:30 am.  This is a family-friendly\, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited\, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult. SUMMARY:Group Ride - Chinatown Boston for Dim Sum
DESCRIPTION:The classic Chinatown ride is back!   Join us for a nice ride along the Charles River to the Hatch Shell\, past the Public Gardens and through a bit of downtown Boston to Chinatown for a bite to eat.  We’ll go for a taste of Dim Sum at the large and airy Empire Garden\, or a similar venue.  Riders have the option of either biking back to Newtonville with the ride leader or putting their bikes on the commuter rail from nearby South Station. \nMeet in front of the Star Market at 33 Austin St. in Newtonville\, and we’ll leave at 11:00 am. SUMMARY:Group Ride:  Bikes and Banh Mi!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a ride that brings together two of life’s pleasures:  Biking and Banh Mi sandwiches!   We’ll ride from the Newton Free library on Homer St. in Newton Center down the Commonweath Ave. carriage lane\, around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir in Brighton and back to Newton Center on Beacon St.  Not a long ride\, but there are a couple of good hills which should improve your appetite.  In Newton Center we’ll stop at Pho Viet for a take-out Banh Mi sandwich for lunch\, and enjoy it at the Newton Center Green.  (Or\, for those who would prefer a slice of pizza\, Sweet Tomatoes is right next door to Pho Viet!).   When done\, we can head back to the library. \nMeet in front of the Newton Free Library on Homer St.\, and we’ll leave at 11:00 am.
