Join us for a special ride we are calling the “Tour de PictureUsNewton“ on Saturday, September 8th at 3:00 PM.  Newton's local arts non-profit,  Newton Community Pride (NCP),  has produced a public art exhibit called  #PictureUsNewton and we are sharing in the fun. #PictureUsNewton consistsof a number of works of art done by local artists, which have been placed in 12 locations all around the city of Newton.    NCP invites you to check out these public art murals and invite you to use them as “selfie stations”  where you can take photos (with bikes, of course!).   Photos taken at any and all “selfie stations” can optionally be added to the NCP online Community Photo Album filled with faces of our [...]

Join us for a ride along the Charles River to Harvard Square to check out the new Arrow Street Arts center at 2 Arrow St. in Cambridge.  It is grand-opening week for this newly renovated community arts building, just a few blocks down Mt. Dear Bike Newton community, Our hearts are broken. As many of you have heard, John Corcoran, a Newton resident, was killed on Monday while biking on the Charles River shared used path in Cambridge, just outside the BU boathouse by the BU bridge. The details are scant, but a driver swerved their car off the road onto the sidewalk and hit John. This is a highly used area by cyclists, walkers and runners, for recreation, commuting and students getting to/from class and other activities. Join us for a nice fall ride to Somerville's famous annual HonkFest:  "An awesome annual 3-day free festival bringing brass bands from all over the United States and the world to Somerville for a celebration of music, community and activism."  We'll bike through Watertown, around part of Fresh Pond in Cambridge and on to Davis Sq. in Somerville, arriving around noon or shortly after to join the marching band parade to Harvard Square.  Once in Harvard Sq., we can hear a couple of bands, get a bite to eat, and then head back to Newton. Join us for a ride to Jamaica Plain to the headquarters of BikesNotBombs (284 Amory St., JP) where we will join and ride with BNB's  final Unity in Community Ride of the season which is planned to go 11am to 1pm.  After apple cider and donuts,  the group would head back to Newton.   The BNB rides usually feature a large number of riders, plenty of music and a lot of fun.  This BNB ride is short (8 mi.) and will tour through Franklin Park and the Arnold Arboretum. Halloween Window Painting Sat. Oct. 26th: Halloween Window Painting turns 25 this year! Kids in grades 3-8 will paint participating merchant windows in seven villages across Newton on Saturday October 26. We will start the anniversary celebrations with a costume and cupcake party for painters following the event on October 26. Then everyone is invited to join us on a celebratory bike tour to view the art across the city on Sunday October 27. Join us for a ride to North Point Park in Cambridge.  Most of this ride is on fairly new off-road bike paths.  We'll get to Fresh Pond in Cambridge via the Watertown-Cambridge Greenway, then on to the just-completed Greenline-Extension bike path (aka Somerville Community Path), then to North Point Park, and return via the Charles River bike paths. Meet in front of the Star Market on Austin St. in Newtonville, and we’ll leave at 1:00PM.  This is a family-friendly, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult.
